Abstract

Ceilândia was created in 1971 as a response to the growing number of occupations in the central areas of Brasília's Plano Piloto. During the government of Hélio Prates da Silveira, the CEI — Campanha de Erradicação de Invasões — was established, with the objective of creating a new city to receive the populations originated from these occupations. The initial sectors of Ceilândia were designed by Ney Gabriel de Sousa and consisted of 17 thousand lots in an area of twenty square kilometers. Fifty years have passed and the city has expanded into new sectors. In addition, its growth dynamics led to significant changes in its urban fabric. It is in these changes that the objective of this work resides: to identify, in the light of urban morphology, how these changes reconfigure the city. To this end, a sample study was carried out from a cutout covering five of the eleven current sectors, within which a representative neighborhood unit of each of these analyzed portions was selected. A street was then selected within each UV from which the residences were catalogued, in order to register, through drawings and photography, their physical characteristics, facade and occupation of the lot. The analysis starts from the current situation of these blocks and their houses, from a historical perspective, to recognize the patterns of their alterations and to understand if there is a repercussion of the urban design of the new and old sectors, in the housing typologies. The corpus of the research involves documents collected from the Public Archives of the Federal District, maps provided by the Department of Urban Development and Housing, data provided by the Companhia Energética de Brasília, books and dissertations on the subject and satellite images from the Google Maps and Google Earth tools , which allow the visualization of the current status of occupation of the lots, as well as material produced during visits to the city such as photographs and drawings. Part of this work was part of the research Cotidianos Escolares e Dinâmicas Metropolitanas da Capital do Brasil, developed in partnership between the departments of Anthropology and Architecture of the University of Brasília, the basis of the works in Ceilândia was the Elementary School Center 19 (CEF 19), where they were developed with students, among others, activities to better understand the dynamics of the place, from the perspective of those who actually experience it.
