Abstract

Technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) is the knowledge required for effective technology integration in teaching. TPACK deals with how teachers play with technology in delivering their content. However it is evident that the lack of its usage or even knowledge of it is prominent in Ilorin East which prompted this research to bring to knowledge of the teachers and to bring to awareness the importance of this to the government and relevant organization. In this study, Ilorin high school science teachers‟ TPACK was assessed through hard copies questionnaires. Questionnaire were taken to each school for response of the science Teachers. After collection of the data, it was analyzed usingthe demographic data of the respondents/participants were presented using frequency counts and percentage, the research question 1, 2, 3, 4 were presented using mean and standard deviation while the research hypothesis were tested using independent t-test and one way Analysis of variance (ANOVA). The data and its analysis revealed that Ilorin high school science teachers in general had a high perception of their understanding of TPACK and its related constructs. It was also revealed that Science Teacher’s scored high in their mean in this study for all the various TPACK constructs with their lowest mean score being 2.98 for the technological knowledge construct. The recommendations from this study proposed that teacher education program should ensure that there is a focus on teaching pre-service teachers and even students by providing them with basic resources needed. Science teachers should improve their technical skill by going for trainings and seminars. Teacher education program should formulate standards that will help in preparation of pre-service teachers in TPACK that may enhance good performance of students. Therefore, professional learning program should target groups of teachers in the same school or cluster of schools rather than targeting individual teachers. This will enable teachers to share ideas and provide leadership for their colleagues in terms of how to use technolog.
