Abstract

The PhD thesisconcernsthe study of Social Cooperative Enterprises in Greece. The Social Cooperative enterprise, which constitutes a form of cooperative both as a legal and as a social phenomenon is approached, as it combines social and economic elements. It is examined how this institution as a form of economic activity irrespective of the public and private profit-making sectors can be an alternative solution to the problems and crisis caused by the globalization of economic relations today.In part A, the emergence and causes of creation of cooperatives in Europe are determined in particular. It is analyzed and determined, how the structure of the industrial society led to the birth of the cooperative. The new social conditions, especially in countries that have experienced industrial integration such as England, France and Germany, have caused concerns about how to deal with new social issues such as economic poverty, unemployment, low wages, residence as well as poor working and food conditionswhich prevailed during the 19th century in Western Europe. Cooperative came as a response to the acute social problem created in the countries of Europe by the new capitalist relations of production, as well as the need to address the social and economic marginalization of the workingsocial classes.During the first half of the 19th century the appearance of the cooperative was traced. The first cooperative in history "of the righteous pioneers" of Rochdale, was founded in the city with the same name in England in 1844, and in particular the principles and values of this cooperative, the process formation, theorganization. It is thoroughly explained why this formation establishes the first cooperative in humanity.The part B develops the basic theories of co-operatives and identifies the forerunners of modern co-operatives, their ideas and the emergence of the first co-operative groups in England, France and Germany. The main forerunners of the co-operative are developed and their theories arethoroughly analyzed. The cooperative began according to them as a social, moral and at the same time legal phenomenon, based on the principles of democracy, free participation, non-profit and solidarity.The first chapter of part C, the social definition of Law is generally analyzed and the nature of law as a social phenomenon is traced as well as the contribution of law to the organization and constitution of society and the relationship of law with other social phenomena, specifically with politics, ideology and economics. It is examined how the law reflects the current social reality. The subject of the social determination of law are the interdependencies and interactions between rules of law, social structures and human activities during the stages of birth, development and application of rules of law.The second chapter of part C the analysis concerns the relations of cooperative law with the economy, the dimensions and consequences of the phenomenon of globalization as an economic phenomenon and globalization interaction with the…
